Motion Studio Dress Code

Please make sure that dancers are prepared when they arrive for class with proper attire and hair secured. Changing clothes should take place in the changing room not the bathroom. Dancers should never be outdoors in only their dance attire. Dance attire should be covered up when dancers are outside of the studio.

  • A neat and tidy appearance shows attentiveness and respect for students, teacher, and the art of dance.
  • Teachers must be able to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on
  • posture, alignment, etc.
  • Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and neck for all styles of dance.
  • Jewelry must not be loose or dangling. Stud earrings only.  No neclaces, bracelets or watches.
  • Gum chewing is not allowed due to danger of choking.
  • No loose-fitting pants, blue jeans or t-shirts, or satin house shoes!
  • No costumes are allowed in class unless a dress up day is announced by Motion Studio or the individual teacher.
  • Dancewear should be purchased at Motion Studio to ensure uniformity and quality.

Preschool Dance and Kinder Combo

Girls:

  • A pink leotard
  • A shear, pink pull-on ballet skirt to help learn arm and hand positions (please avoid wrap-around skirts that must be tied)
  • Full-sole pink ballet shoes (please avoid ballet shoes with drawstrings)
  • White socks or pink tights.  
  • Hair must be secured in a ballet bun. 
  • Kinder Combo students will also need tan tap shoes.

Boys:

  •  Black sweatpants (not too baggy please), black tights, or black bike shorts
  • Snug fitting white t-shirt
  • Full-sole black ballet shoes
  • White socks. 
  • Kinder Combo students will also need black lace up tap shoes.

 

Preschool Tumbling and Acro

Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for a full range of motion or a leotard or biketard. Clothing should be close fitting to allow for safe and effective spotting from the instructor. Students should be barefoot. No skirts please. 

Ballet/Tap Combo 1 and 2

Girls wear a light blue leotard, a shear light blue skirt, full sole pink ballet shoes and pink tights.  Hair must be secured in a ballet bun.

Boys wear black sweatpants (not too baggy please), black tights, or black bike shorts, snug fitting white t-shirt, full-sole black ballet shoes, white socks.  Tan tap shoes are required girls and black tap shoes are required for boys.

Combo 3 (Ballet, Tap and Jazz)

Girls wear navy leotard, full-sole or split sole pink ballet shoes, pink tights, tan jazz shoes and tan tap shoes, hair secured in a bun. NO BUN, NO CLASS. NO EXCUSES! (If hair is too short for bun, it must be secured away from face and off of neck.) Girls may put on jazz shorts for jazz and tap portion of the class. 

Boys wear black tights or black bike shorts, snug fitting white t-shirt, full-sole black ballet shoes, black tap shoes and black jazz shoes, white socks.

Ballet 4

Girls wear burgundy leotard, full-sole or split sole pink ballet shoes, pink tights, hair secured in a   bun.  NO BUN, NO CLASS.  NO EXCUSES!  (If hair is too short for bun, it must be secured away from face and off of neck.)

Boys wear black tights, or black bike shorts, snug fitting white t-shirt, full-sole black ballet shoes, white socks.

Ballet 7 and 8

Girls wear black leotard, full-sole or split sole pink ballet shoes, pink tights, hair secured in a   bun.  NO BUN, NO CLASS.  NO EXCUSES!  (If hair is too short for bun, it must be secured away from face and off of neck.)

Boys wear black tights, or black bike shorts, snug fitting white t-shirt, full-sole black ballet shoes, white socks.

Acceptable warm-up clothing for ballet class

Legwarmers, tight wrap ballet sweaters, tight knit ballet shorts or leggings. Instructors may ask that warm ups be removed at any time during class.

Tap and Jazz

Girls wear a solid color leotard, black, pink or tan tights, or “jazz pants or shorts”, and tan jazz shoes/ tan tap shoes.  Hair must be secured away from face. 

Boys wear black sweatpants (not too baggy please), jazz pants or shorts, snug fitting solid color t-shirt, and black jazz shoes/ tap shoes.  

Broadway Dance requires both jazz and tap shoes.

Hip Hop

Girls and boys, wear athletic clothing or dance wear.  Black hip hop sneakers (or jazz shoes in Happy Hip Hop only). 

Absolutely no street shoes, street/school clothes, jeans or skirts.

Contemporary

Girls wear a leotard and footless/convertible tights, capri leggings or jazz shorts and bare feet.  Hair in a high pony tail.

Tumbling and Acro

Girls wear a leotard or biketard with or without jazz shorts and/ footless/convertible tights and bare feet.  Hair must be secured.  Boys wear close fitting athletic clothes.

Special 4 Week Recreational Preschool Dance

Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows a full range of motion. A leotard or dance outfit is welcome but not required. Students can wear ballet slippers or be barefoot.
